second Wednesday of the month, the Museum of the Confederacy and the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park are partnering
to bring the Civil War Sesquicentennial to Appomattox. Each month, a knowledgeable
speaker will lead a discussion on a topic or event. The talks will take place upstairs at Baine’s Books and
Coffee. Lunch will be available for purchase at Baines Books. Admission

this weekend you can learn about how soldiers lived, the shelters theyused (when they had them), their food, their weapons,
how they marched, drilled, and kept prepared to meet the demands of a Civil War Soldier. There will be tactical demonstrations,
firing demonstrations, amoung other programs. One program very special and unique to Appomattox Court House, is the Stacking
of Arms ceremony along the Richmond-Lynchburg Stage Road. This is the exact spot where General Lee's Army of Northern Virginia
laid down its arms for the last time on April 12, 1865. Visitors are invited to bring chairs or blankets. Minimal
Entry fee per person.

“The
Long Road Home” promises to be unlike any other Civil War event, or series of events, as we commemorate the 150th Anniversary
of the historic conflict that in many ways defined this country and its future.
This five-year series of events, beginning
April 2011, will honor five major steps along the way to the end of the War Between the States in Virginia, culminating with
the 150th Appomattox in 2015. The yearly events 2011-2014 will be held in the beautiful, historic grounds of Appomattox Co.
Historical Society, Clover Hill Village, and the 150th Appomattox will be held at a larger site to be announced.
